Remote Turbo Kit by STS fits 2013 & 2014 Scion FR-S / Subaru BRZ
STS Goals for the BRZ
They are currently in the process of building a single turbo system for the BRZ. STS expects to add anywhere from 100-150rwhp, ending up around 275-300rwhp, yet still retaining the reliability of the vehicle. Their patented, rear-mount turbocharger systems should allow us to hit our goal. People love to drive the BRZ but the only real knock they have with it is that it is a bit under powered. They believe we can easily fix that.
Installing their remote-mount turbocharging
system will not only reduce engine bay heat buildup, but also improve
the fuel economy of the BRZ. Based on prior experience, they are hoping
to improve fuel economy by about 15%, which is remarkable as we are also
adding enough power to pin occupants to their seats during hard
acceleration. Having 54 percent of the weight up front and 46 percent in
the rear, the rear mount turbo system will also help with the weight
distribution, making for some pretty exciting cornering on the track or
on those winding country roads.
Additional Upgrades to Boost Overall Performance:
- Wilwood brakes (6 piston front/ 4 piston rear)
- KW fully adjustable coil overs
- Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta tires (265/35 ZR18)
- HD Clutch wheels (18x9.0 all the way around)
- White Line Sway bars
Their BRZ is well into the transformation
process. This transformation will not only produce an incredibly fun car
to drive, but also produce a new STS Turbo Kit as the result. Stay
tuned for progress updates and the actual numbers, they will be
impressive!

We bought the BRZ knowing it would be a great platform for a little
extra horsepower. When we got it on the rack, we immediately looked to
the back where the muffler was located. It was no surprise when we saw
this huge thing…
Removing the muffler gave us plenty of room to build and mount the turbo assembly…
We
removed the front bumper came to see what space we had to work with for
the front mount intercooler. Under the hood in the engine compartment,
the turbo system does NOT add heat and does NOT look cluttered. With
our system there is NO need to modify any of the factory cooling system
components.
Since
the turbo being remote mount, we are able to obtain cooler intake
temperatures than other forced induction options. This equates to better
performance and efficiency.
Getting the prototype installed and fitted on the BRZ.
Below you can see the entire assembly and how it utilizes all the
factory heat shielding and exhaust hangers. You can also see the turbo
assembly does not hang lower than the factory muffler. Ground clearance
is NOT compromised.
The air filter is located behind the rear bumper where it is
protected and has plenty of dry, clean air available. We also provide a
simple filter to further protect it from the elements. We have even
taken this car through an automatic car wash with NO problems!
Our preliminary HP numbers are very promising at this point as you
will see in the dyno graph below. With our water/methanol injection
system we are shooting for 300+ rwhp on pump gas! We are currently
changing the turbo size that will make our base turbo system capable of
450+rwhp! All of our systems will be shipped with this upgraded turbo.
The compressed air goes through our custom size piping up through the
transmission tunnel where it does NOT affect ground clearance. The
charge pipes are exposed to a lot of ambient airflow to fight heat
soaking by dissipating as much heat as possible. With the proper sized
charge pipes, this little car has great response!
Stock muffler vs. STS Turbo
assembly. We utilize the wastegate dump as the passenger side tip to
retain the dual exhaust look. Our kit also includes 2 dual wall
stainless steel tips which look MUCH better than the factory tips.
Shown above is the turbo system with our optional turbine jacket
installed. These are just a few highlights of the turbo system. A
typical installation will take 12-16 hours depending on options.
